German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Rejects Trump's Plan to Relocate Gazans to Egypt and Jordan

Berlin: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has strongly opposed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan, calling it "unacceptable."

According to media reports, Scholz made these remarks during a town hall event in Berlin. He emphasized that any initiative to displace Gaza residents to Egypt or Jordan is not acceptable.

"In light of recent public statements, I want to make it very clear that any plan involving the relocation of Gazans—forcing them to leave for Egypt or Jordan—is unacceptable," Scholz stated.

The German Chancellor reiterated his support for a two-state solution and stressed that the Palestinian Authority should take responsibility for governing Gaza. "Peace can only be achieved if there is a viable hope for a sovereign Palestinian future," he added.

Scholz also dismissed any notion that stability in the region could be achieved without Gaza and the West Bank being part of a Palestinian state. "Anyone who believes that peace is possible without a sovereign Palestinian state including both the West Bank and Gaza is mistaken," he asserted.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged Egypt’s Foreign Minister to ensure that Hamas never governs Gaza again.

According to a statement from the U.S. State Department, Rubio underscored the importance of holding Hamas accountable and emphasized close cooperation in post-war planning to prevent Hamas from regaining control over Gaza or posing a threat to Israel.

In a significant development, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that more than 376,000 displaced Palestinians have returned to northern Gaza following the withdrawal of Israeli forces from key highways.

A statement from OCHA estimated that after Israeli troop withdrawals from two main roads leading to northern Gaza, hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals have returned to their hometowns.
